Once again I look forward to welcoming you all to the Embassy Theatre for our International Meccano Show!
As I briefed before, we found it necessary this year to pitch for midweek dates because the expense of potentially loss making weekend occupation was difficult to justify against the potential of the theatre to attract more profitable events. We did in fact consider the last week in May but it was going to run right up against the CAM Show. Knowing how popular that is among you, we settled instead for June 26th and 27th. (We would have liked the 28th as well but that had already been spoken for.)
Behind the scenes we did also look at other Skegness venues. However two points weighed heavily with us. The first is that the Embassy offer us an extremely worthwhile package of publicity with some 4000 outlets for material and production of posters. Our opinion is that we would be foolish to pass up this professional feature in favour of our amateur efforts. Secondly the nature of the show is that, in a world where other manifestations of the name MECCANO in the world of toys have shrunk to an almost negligible force, the best we can hope for is to attract passing custom – and, certainly in the world of Skegness visitors, a stroll along the Parade with all its attractions surely features in everyone’s plans. From that viewpoint you can scarcely beat the location of the Embassy – although we might have to get Jim’s Giant Windmill out there again on the pavement!
So – here we are. The show as before – and you will be glad to know that I have already received enquiries from overseas modellers keen to sign up their hotels. (In that connection, readers may be interested to note that Skeg’s first Premier Inn will shortly be open, right on the sea front…………….)
We have also been welcomed back at the VINE HOTEL for our dinner on Wednesday Night – menu attached, choices and money to Anne asap – and Marion has very kindly arranged for our informal evening to continue at the New Park Club for all those who come on Setup Day.
One point in passing about Setup Day. Our booking is for 6 hours, not the whole day. Marion has therefore arranged for the tables to arrive round about 11 a.m. so that the staff have time to prepare before hand, and that will take us conveniently up to 5 p.m. As usual, cables and power supplies will need to be tested to enable us to comply with the Embassy’s insurance cover. Table capitaton will be £10 again and, in view of the short duration, may we ask all of you to commit to staying until the end and not disappearing early!
Otherwise, The Show Goes On. We look forward to meeting you all again! Just take a minute out to E – MAIL ME PLEASE with your table space needs and any oddball queries.
We look forward to hearing from you all.
