When shall we (three) meet again?
I doubt Shakespeare’s witches ever imagined a situation quite like the one in which we find ourselves now. Around the world Meccano Clubs (and many others) have bowed to the inevitable and cancelled their meetings. That is sad, but no great thing when compared with the losses, both personal and financial, that many others are facing. Those in Meccanodom who are retired (and there are plenty of us!) have the privilege of retreating without guilt to their Meccano rooms and tackling long-promised projects. Other in lockdown have joined us in spirit, of course, but our earnest hope is that they will soon be able to get back to their normal work. We wish you all well, whatever your situation and trust that you are keeping well.
But that is not the end of our Guild. The friendships we have with each other are as important as the meetings we attend, and many are the phone-calls and emails that have kept us in touch with each other. Our NewsMag continues of course and we are grateful to all contributors. It has never just been about who-brought-what to the last meeting and there is still much to read. Don’t forget, all offers of material are always welcome! There are costs to this, as you know, so be sure to renew your subscription to be sure of getting yours.
As to meetings, we have no way of knowing when our next meeting will be. We plan each year to meet on the third Saturday of January, May and September, (16th Jan, 15th May, 18th Sept 2021) but until we get the Government’s OK for such gatherings these on hold. When we get the all-clear we will put a notice on our website and will contact as many as possible by email.
Until then, why not follow the example of some other clubs and guilds by sending us news of what you have been doing or making? Come September we could even have a “Virtual” display of our work on the website. Remember, the Guild is not just about three meetings a year – it is about the relationships that link us together with each other and with many others around the world. Keep at it! Floreat Architecti Meccanorum!
